Street name change would honor Nuxhall (comment on this)

CINCINNATI — The idea of renaming a downtown street after late Reds legend Joe Nuxhall may be gaining steam.

Cincinnati Vice Mayor David Crowley brought a proposal to Cincinnati City Council during its Wednesday, March 26, meeting asking to rename the zero to one hundred block of Main Street to Joe Nuxhall Way, according to Local 12 WKRC.

Lean on me . . . crash victim 'humbled' by community support; Former CASS teacher Stinson seriously injured in Echo ...

Trevor Stinson is recovering in a Sudbury hospital after a car accident that could easily have ended his life.

He's not sure exactly when life will get back to normal, but one thing he is certain of is the support he's received from family, friends and the community.

"I was floored and humbled to realize the magnitude and depth of concern, compassion and support that has been generated since my accident," said Stinson said in a recent telephone interview, just weeks after being badly injured March 3 in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Echo Bay. "I never realized how many people knew who I was or anything about me."

Stinson celebrated his 32nd birthday last Thursday in hospital with his family. He was even able to enjoy an ice cream cake at a party.

UM coach Randy Shannon more at ease this year

Randy Shannon said he feels better about his second spring as Miami football coach than he did the first.

"I really do," Shannon said Tuesday. "We have got a coaching staff that has been around. We all know each other a lot better. The players know what to expect. The tempo is a lot better than it has ever been."

The chemistry is improved, too, according to players. That was an issue at times last season as the Hurricanes adjusted to new coaches and struggled to a 5-7 finish.

But players say the atmosphere has improved even in the short time since spring practice opened on Feb. 26

Orlando Magic's Jameer Nelson likely to sit out of concern about past concussions

While small forward Hedo Turkoglu said he'll play tonight in Milwaukee, the Orlando Magic are expected to hold out point guard Jameer Nelson -- maybe just to keep him away from friendly fire from teammate Dwight Howard for a while.

Nelson, who has a history of concussions, said it appears the team is taking a precaution after he was struck on the chin by an inadvertent forearm from Howard in Tuesday night's loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Nelson was not allowed by team doctors to return after taking the first-quarter hit and said he later felt dizzy and nauseous -- typical concussion-like symptoms. He also was held out of Thursday's practice.

"We got good news. It was just a jaw contusion; it was not a concussion," Coach Stan Van Gundy said.
